Serena Ryder "Together We Are One" (Pan Am/Parapan Am Games anthem)
Published May 28, 2015As previously reported, Toronto will be hosting the Pan American and Parapan American Games this summer. To help get in the winning spirit ahead of time, a new anthem for the sporting events has been unveiled. You can hear the Serena Ryder-sung "Together We Are One" now.
The track was written by Murray Daigle, Bobby John and Jasmine Denham, and hits upon triumphant and united themes you'd expect from a song attached to a global sporting event ("There is no obstacle / We are unstoppable").The song is presented as a friendly arrangement that includes Ryder's booming pipes, symphony strings, Native drumming, and a team of backup vocalists.
"I think official songs for sporting events are key," Ryder told CBC. "They are most important, in a sense, because it's what joins everyone together."
You can check out a quick interview with Ryder about the track, as well as a full in-studio performance, down below. The song is also available on iTunes, as is a French version sung by Denham and a Spanish-language rendition delivered by Canadian Idol winner Eva Avila.
The Pan Am Games run from July 10 to 26, while the Parapan Am Games follow from August 7 to 15. In addition to the competitions, the Games will host a series of free shows from the likes of the Flaming Lips, Janelle Monáe, A Tribe Called Red, Death From Above 1979, the Roots and more.
