Instagram Music Is Finally Coming to Stories in Canada
Facebook users will now also be able to express themselves through song
Published Feb 19, 2020In the summer of 2018, Instagram rolled out its Music features to users in 51 countries, allowing them to personalize posts with song streams and lyrics. Now, the suite of tools will be available in Canada at last.
Today, Facebook announced the launch of Music features on both social media platforms in Canada, in the wake of forming "new partnerships with collecting societies, as well as many of the industry's leading labels, distributors, publishers and artists" in the country.
Users will now be able to add songs and lyrics to their photo and video Stories, choosing from a library of international offerings in addition to CanCon output from the likes of Snotty Nose Rez Kids, Marie-Mai and more.
Additionally, users will be able to use Instagram's Music functions in the app's Questions sticker, while Facebook users can pin songs at the top of their profile pages.
"We are working to bring voice to Indigenous experiences, to empower our youth, and to ensure greater representation in music here on Turtle Island (Canada) and around the world," Snotty Nose Rez Kids said in a statement. "We're excited to see Facebook and Instagram launch these new tools and provide a platform for us to better reach and connect with our fans."
In a press release, the company called the launch "an exciting moment for Canadian artists," adding, "We're excited to do more to connect people on deeper levels with the music and artists they love and offer artists new ways to build their brands."
