H.E.R. I Used to Know Her: The Prelude
Published Aug 15, 2018On I Used To Know Her: The Prelude, H.E.R. hints at how she'll evolve on her highly anticipated studio debut. She uses the six-song teaser to perfect her placid, dream-like sound, but adds flourishes throughout that showcase the breadth of her talent.
She seasons "Against Me" with spoken word poetry, and on "Lost Souls," the Vallejo vocalist shows off her rap skills, updating Lauryn Hill's "Lost Ones" with sharp, quick-witted musings from the Book of Gen Z. Bryson Tiller is the perfect guest star for "Could've Been," and "Feel A Way" is classic H.E.R., an anchor for fans resistant to change.
It's a nice appetizer, though it can only satiate for so long. Hopefully a full-length is not far behind. (RCA)
