Gary Oldman Is Narrating the 'David Bowie Is' Augmented Reality App
Over the last five years, the David Bowie Is art exhibit has travelled to London, Toronto, Paris and New York, and now it's about to debut as an augmented reality app. Perhaps even better than any trip to a museum, the mobile app experience will be narrated by Gary Oldman.
In a statement, Oldman said it is "a privilege to be involved" with the project.
"This brings the amazing David Bowie Is exhibition to a wider audience," he said." It's great that his fans get to experience it."
Oldman and David Bowie met in the late 1980s and became close friends; Oldman even starred in Bowie's 2013 video for "The Next Day."
The app arrives on January 8, commemorating what would have been Bowie's 72nd birthday, and will be available on iOs and Android.
It features hundreds of the costumes, sketches, notes, handwritten lyrics, music videos and original works of art that were previously shown in the exhibits, as well as 60 new items.
The app aims to mirror the physical experience, but without the barriers or crowds of a public gallery space — and you can explore it as many times as you like.
A fully immersive virtual reality version of the exhibit is expected to arrive later this year, as well.
