'Friends' Reunion Special for HBO Max Still a "Maybe"

'Friends' Reunion Special for HBO Max Still a 'Maybe'
Friends turned 25 last year, prompting plenty of rumours about potential reboots and reunions, though nothing beyond an Instagram selfie of the old cast has materialized yet. HBO Max, however, has said that a reunion is still "a maybe."
At a TV critics meeting yesterday (January 15), HBO Max chief content officer Kevin Reilly claimed that "there's interest all the way around" in reuniting the cast, but that "we can't seem to quite get that interest sort of all aligned."
He added, "So today, unfortunately, it's still a maybe."
Last year, Jennifer Aniston suggested that some kind of reunion would happen, though she shut down any hopes of a full-blown Friends reboot.

"We would love for there to be something, but we don't know what that something is," Aniston told Ellen last year. "So we're just trying."

Her former co-stars Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt Leblanc and David Schwimmer are reportedly also on board for some sort of unscripted reunion special.
HBO Max — a WarnerMedia-owned streaming service — is expected to make its debut this May.
Last year, it was confirmed that WarnerMedia had successfully outbid Netflix for exclusive streaming rights to the ten seasons of Friends, despite Netflix shelling out $100 million USD to keep the show on its service throughout 2019.
