Ben Affleck Says the Next Batman Movie Is Simply Called 'The Batman'
Published Oct 04, 2016While details are still shaping up behind Ben Affleck's next Batman movie, we apparently have a title for the project. Keeping things simple and official-sounding, the actor has said that the forthcoming superhero flick will be given the stately title of The Batman.
Not much has been shed behind the upcoming film, which Affleck will both be directing and starring in as the fabled Dark Knight, but the filmmaker is sticking with a simple title, at least for now. While out promoting forthcoming drama The Accountant, he told the Associated Press that The Batman is "what we're going with now."
The reveal comes off recent news that the next Batman film has found one of its villains. Joe Manganiello has been tapped to play Slade Wilson (a.k.a. Deathstroke).
"He's a great villain," Affleck told Collider. "I had an instinctive feeling that he [Deathstroke] would match up with him [Batman] well. I'm a big admirer of that character."
While a date has yet to be affixed to The Batman, Affleck will also appear as the character in 2017's Justice League, which will unite Bats with fellow DC Comics heroes Superman (William Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), the Flash (Ezra Miller) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher).
Superhero fans may recall that this isn't the first project outside of comic book pages to go by the title of The Batman. An animated series that ran for five seasons and 65 episodes was produced for the Kids WB between 2004 and 2008.
