Published Nov 20, 2013In addition to memorably idiosyncratic characters and heavily stylized colour palettes, director Wes Anderson's films tend to tout unbeatable soundtracks, but a group of indie rock artists are aiming to reach the same heights on a covers project saluting songs used in flicks like Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums.
While the details are still shaping up, American Laundromat Records has announced it will be issuing the two-CD I Saved Latin!: A Tribute to Wes Anderson sometime in the spring of 2014. As you'll see via the cover art up above, the project includes nods to Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, The Darjeeling Limited, Fantastic Mr. Fox and Moonrise Kingdom.
UPDATE: The album will arrive May 13.
Pixies leader Black Francis is attached to deliver a cover of Love's punchy "Seven and Seven Is," which was used in Rushmore. Juliana Hatfield tackles Elliott Smith's "Needle in the Hay," which was used rather crushingly in The Royal Tennenbaums, while Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin go a different route by covering "Margaret Yang's Theme" from Rushmore, which was crafted for the film by Devo leader/film scorer Mark Mothersbaugh.
As you'll see down below, other artists attached to the project include Mike Watt, Telekinesis, Warren Fitzsimmons, Matt Pond, Throwing Muses' Kristin Hersh and more, while artists covered include such classic acts as the Kinks, the Rolling Stones, Nico, David Bowie and the Zombies.
The tracklisting has yet to be finalized and has yet to reveal any offerings from Anderson's most recent film Moonrise Kingdom, but details are expected to be launched in full closer to the release date.
You can see the info as is, thankfully not written in an obsolete vernacular, down below in alphabetical order.
You can also pre-order the set, which comes as various pre-order bundles that include T-shirts, decals, badges, beanies and Max Fischer business cards, here.
