Lido Pimienta Declares Herself 'Miss Colombia' on New Album
Lido Pimienta has announced her next album. The record is titled Miss Colombia, and it will arrive on April 17 via Fontana North/Anti-.

The album marks the follow-up to 2017's La Papessa, which won the Polaris Music Prize that year.

Majority of the new album was recorded in Pimienta's home studio in Toronto, though there was some additional recording done in the town of San Basilio de Palenque in Colombia. The album was written and arranged solely by Pimienta, and she co-produced it with Matt Smith (a.k.a Prince Nifty).

Miss Colombia takes its name in part from the Miss Universe mix-up in 2015, when Steve Harvey mistakenly gave the crown to Miss Colombia instead of Miss Philippines. According to a press release, that incident caused Pimienta to "reflect on the anti-blackness she's experienced" in her own life.

Miss Colombia is said to include songs about love, self-love and loss, as well as the divisive politics in Colombia, Indigenous inequality and racism. Sonically, the record apparently hears Pimienta drawing on traditional Afro-Latin influences and indigenous music, as well as artists like M.I.A. and Cardi B.

The first single to arrive from the album is "Eso Que Tu Haces." See the full tracklisting for Miss Colombia, and check out the lead song and video, below.

Pimienta has also announced a select handful of shows to coincide with the album's release. She'll perform in Sudbury, Chicago, Austin, Toronto, Los Angeles and Brooklyn. See the upcoming dates below, as well.
