Published Mar 07, 2019Canadian psych-rock veterans Black Mountain have announced plans for their next album. Destroyer is due out on May 24 via Dine Alone/Jagjaguwar.
The record hears frontman Stephen McBean celebrating a slightly belated teen right of passage — getting a driver's licence, and all of the freedom (and fear) that comes with it.
As such, the title of the album comes from a discontinued 1985 Dodge muscle car, and sonically, it aims to capture "the feeling of driving a hot rod." Chanelling mid-'80s Los Angeles and the intense battle between punk and hair metal, it's an exercise in both time travel and music history.
Destroyer hears McBean collaborating with long-time bandmate Jeremy Schmidt, new members Rachel Fannan and Adam Bulgasem, and previous collaborators Kliph Scurlock, Kid Millions and John Congleton.
Check out the tracklisting for the upcoming LP below. You can also stream the lead single and opening track "Future Shade."
