Published Jul 17, 2019This fall, Rick and Morty will finally return after a long two-year wait. Before Season 4 arrives proper, however, the show's Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland want to make sure you're all caught up.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the duo said the standalone episodes will feature more serialized content, meaning it's more important than ever to make sure you're caught up on the show.
"Without giving anything away, we have serialized stuff we check in on now and then that's sprinkled over the top of strong episodic episodes," Roiland said. "To fans of the show, they're going to want to watch them in order…I would definitely say watch all of Season 3 before Season 4."
This season of the show will feature 10 episodes and guests that include Paul Giamatti, Kathleen Turner, Taika Waititi and Sam Neill. It's part of Adult Swim's enormous 70-episode order for the show.
Harmon added that fans won't have to wait that long ever again.
"I think it's safe to say without fear of being wrong that the gap between seasons 3 and 4 will be the longest and last time that it's ever so long, that it's ridiculous," he said. "I don't know how fast we can do it, but I know it will never be this long again… We're literally writing Season 5 while finishing Season 4 just to force ourselves to commit to a certain schedule."
Rick and Morty Season 4 will debut in November.
