Published Jun 19, 2019Adam Litovitz, a Toronto-based composer and member of Jooj, has passed away at the age of 36.
His partner and creative collaborator Sook-Yin Lee announced his passing via social media this afternoon, describing Litovitz as "pure light." Soon after, a Toronto police spokesperson confirmed to NOW that Litovitz was found dead Tuesday (June 18).
"I love you so much," Lee wrote. "Thank you for loving me."
UPDATE (6/21, 10:45 a.m. EDT): Jooj's label, Last Gang, has since released a statement on Litovitz's death:
We are very saddened to learn of Adam's passing. He was an incredibly talented musician and a joy to work with. We are sending our thoughts to Sook Yin and his family at this very difficult time.
In addition to releasing music alongside Lee in the band Jooj, Litovitz also composed film scores.
He received a Genie Award nomination for Best Original Score for Lee's Year of the Carnivore in 2011 and a Canadian Screen Awards nomination for Best Original Song for Octavio Is Dead! earlier this year.
Litovitz was reported missing earlier this week, and Toronto police claimed he had last been seen in the area of Spadina Avenue and Dundas Street West on Saturday (June 15).
At this time, a cause of death has not been revealed.
