Published Nov 02, 2016Johnny Depp has brought children's lit to the screen with his roles in films like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland, but his next kids-book-to-screen adaptation could be the biggest one yet. Depp has signed on to co-star in an upcoming sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
The J.K. Rowling-penned film franchise serves as a prequel to the beloved Harry Potter series, telling the tales of Hogwarts textbook author Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne) — about 70 years before Potter himself enrolls at the school with his own copy of the titular book.
Depp has now been confirmed as a cast member in an upcoming sequel, though his role has yet to be revealed. According to Deadline, he apparently also makes a cameo in the first film in the series.
The initial instalment of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits theatres on November 18. The David Yates-directed blockbuster is the first of five films in the Warner Bros.-produced franchise.
