Published Feb 21, 2020Dr. Amie Harwick — a well-known therapist and former fiancée of Drew Carey — tragically died last weekend, and now more details about her death have been revealed.
The Los Angeles County coroner's office determined there were signs that she had been strangled before being thrown from her third-floor apartment balcony.
The coroner ruled Harwick's death a homicide and listed the cause of death as blunt force injuries.
Officers also found evidence of forced entry into the home and a struggle by Harwick.
Her former boyfriend Gareth Pursehouse has been charged with murder and first-degree residential burglary. Prosecutors have accused him of lying in wait, which makes him eligible for the death penalty if found guilty.
Harwick had previously filed a restraining order against Pursehouse, but it had expired.
Harwick was a practising family and sex therapist, who often appeared on podcasts and YouTube channels. She dated Carey for two years and the pair announced their engagement in 2018. They split up soon after.
Carey paid tribute to his late ex-fiancée on Twitter on Monday (February 17), sharing a photo with the caption: "I hope you're lucky enough to have someone in your life that loves as much as she did."
Tapings for The Price Is Right were postponed this week to allow Carey time to grieve.
